Ways to Get Involved

In Hawaii A.A., we joke that ALOHA stands for A Lot of Happy Alcoholics. Since helping others achieve sobriety helps us stay happily clean and sober, here are a few ways we do that, in addition to attending and sharing at A.A. meetings, and teaching others the 12 steps.

  • Office Volunteer (Answer calls to A.A. Central Office, greet and fill literature orders for visitors to the office.)
  • 12-Step Call Volunteer (Upon request from an office volunteer or phone angel, tell an alcoholic who has requested help to stop drinking how you got clean and sober and how they can, too.)
  • After-Hours Phone Angel (Phone angels answer calls to Central Office after office hours. The calls are routed to the Phone Angel’s own phone during a selected five- or six-hour shift. Help callers locate a meeting near them, answer questions about the A.A. program, and share your own experience, strength and hope.)
  • Mobile Meetings (Take a meeting to a recovering alcoholic who is bed-bound or otherwise temporarily unable to attend an A.A. meeting.)
  • Tech Support (Use your skills with Google Workspace apps and/or WordPress to help keep the A.A. Central Office office computer and the Oahu A.A. website in good working order.)
  • Translation Volunteer (Fluent in another language? Translate the A.A. message for a non-English speaker.)
  • Website Committee (Know WordPress inside and out? Help manage the website.)
  • Archivist (Help organize and preserve materials documenting Oahu A.A. history.)

The following are two-year commitments. Member candidates are elected at Oahu Intergroup meetings.

  • OIG Activities Committee
  • OIG Finance Committee
  • OIG Steering Committee
  • 12 Step Volunteer Coordinator
